WEST RETURNS
Oct. 21st, 2010 12:43 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
[Inmate Filter; MINUS: known snitches, like Judas and Sylar, non-humans (vampires, Borg Queen and aliens). AND VICTOR LOL. Basically a Manly Poker Filter + ladies. If you're not sure, ask me!]
[At first, West sounds mildly amused.] It seems the wardens have stopped going to any lengths whatsoever to mask their hypocrisy these days. When I first arrived, there was still an attempt, at least, to react to incendiary statements made by wardens and those made by inmates in much the same way. And now? Observe:
We have an inmate who condemns the wardens-- not without reason. Rather than make even the smallest attempt to listen and respond seeking discourse, a solution, what do we have? Threats of violence. Attempts at silencing him. Why? Because he challenged their assumed superiority. That privilege, which they cling to despite never having earned it. [A beat.] This is all public record, of course. One need only look to Prefect's entry to see it for one's self. [Musingly:] What else they could have threatened him with in private, one can only speculate.
And now, we have a warden who has declared humanity irredeemable, based on the actions of one inmate. And the reason for this isn't some great sense of justice for all the violence that has been committed throughout the whole of human history. No, what condemns humanity is nothing more than the fact that somebody he cared for became the victim of violence.
I suppose it was all well and good when it was merely happening to others. [He smiles humourlessly; you can practically hear it in his voice.] Wardens and their exceptions.
But that isn't enough for this warden. Condemning humanity is a weekly occurrence on the Barge. So he has to take it a step further. He goes on to trivialise an event that occurred last year. Those of you who've been here for even half the time I have can recall, I'm sure, the Borg Queen's attempted takeover. Trapped, for days, in the dining hall as our numbers dwindled and an infection spread amongst our friends and loved ones. Those who were assimilated were little more than monsters with familiar faces, set loose on the lot of us, and nothing seemed to stop them, no force that we had in our possession made any difference at all. What hope did we have? What future was there?
That we survived was simply a fluke. And this warden, who condemns humanity, who believes we would benefit from being forced into that situation once again? [He hmms.] He understands this. He knows what happened.
And yet he dismisses it and the pain that it caused all who were involved in that attack. And how do the wardens react? How do those very wardens who were there when it happened respond to him?
They sympathise. They coddle. They try to reason with him, engage him in debate. If there's any anger, it's either being held back in silence or delivered through a private filter.
The public condemnations, the treats, are only reserved for those without power. The inmates.
Humanity... Dignity, it seems, is for them alone. We're nothing more than their dogs.
The Barge and its justice.
[OOC: Sorry the filter's kind of exclusive, but West has been here for ages and knows who not to trust by now.]

Date: 2010-10-22 10:30 am (UTC)This is why I insist we need to refuse to deal with them. Deal within ourselves. We don't need their authority, because they're not very good with it anyway.
