But what purpose would that have? Literally walking in another's shoes teaches us nothing about our own selves or how we would behave in their circumstances. It implies that all acts during breaches are predestined.

I don't think it's all predestined, but I can't really explain it. I guess more to the point there's nothing saying that exact situation hasn't occurred somewhere before, if not those exact people.
