Congratulations. You won. Here's to an eternity of the status quo.

[After a pause]

Billy... Please tell me you're alright.

[AND IN THE BACKGROUND YOU CAN HEAR RAYNE SHOUTING THE FOLLOWING]

JESUSFUCKINGCHRISTMONKEYBALLS! SOMEONE BETTER BE LETTING ME OUT OF HERE OR-

[OOC: Major McCrazyface is in Level 0 now with a bandaged, possibly broken hand, a STILL stitched up leg, and a frown :c I'm pretty sure Inmates can't initiate private filters, hence his having to ask about Billy in public. ANYWAY. Visit him if you'd like; just spam it in this post]

You said no one was going to get hurt. That you could keep your men in check.

I suppose. Trust is a luxury, where I come from.

I tried. Rose wasn't hurt.

I told you: any damage done to the hostages would be on the Wardens' hands. You could choose to risk your friends' lives and fire, or you could do as we requested.

....

You really think that? That it's my fault Rose got hurt? That you've got no responsibility for your inability to control your own actions?

Date: 2009-06-30 04:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] major-west.livejournal.com
Not you, no. Any Warden who would have fired while the hostages were in place.

Sam and Prefect were unfortunate casualties. I do take responsibility for that.

You said this was a message for all Wardens. Anything the Inmates do en masse? Affects all the Wardens, West, whether we're-- what was you said? "Part of the problem" or not.

Unfortunate casualties. This isn't war, West. You aren't home. These aren't your soldiers, and some of them would sooner kill us all than work things out. And you gave them weapons. You gave them power, and this was the result! The Wardens are going to trust you all less now because they've already seen how out of control you get.

You made it worse.

Perhaps, by strengthening the divide between Warden and Inmate, the rest will finally see reason and act the next time the situation escalates.

You think that I've made things worse, but I've proven that we're capable of setting aside our differences and organising ourselves, acting as a unit, and that's MORE than any of you have done.

I'm sorry for that.

I hope you can trust me, at least.

[He sighs and rubs his eyes tiredly]

Rose, if you trust me, I'll only disappoint you.

Or maybe you could've used your position with the other Inmates to decrease the divide. Been their voice, talked to a Warden you trusted who could have resolved this without any of this having to happen.

So what was your plan? If none of us had agreed, you had all those hostages. Your human shields. What was your plan to keep everyone under control? Or if simply taking the human hostages wasn't enough? What then?
From: [identity profile] major-west.livejournal.com
We also had the food. We were planning to starve you out, if you didn't agree.

Of course you will.

[She sighs]

West... you know I love the Doctor. I love him... more than anything in the world. In the universe, in any universe. I'd trust him with everything, with my life, and have, many times.

But even he's let me down at times. Kept things from me, been unable to save me from being stranded in an alternate universe... more.

Because no matter how much he'd like everyone to believe otherwise, he's not perfect. Neither are you. Neither am I. We fail, we make mistakes, we let our friends down, we let ourselves down. The only way we can move on is to forgive.

I forgive you. And I trust you.

I wasn't going to starve them. Once they were with me, I was true to my word that none of them would be harmed further.

From: [identity profile] capn-jack-h.livejournal.com
And you had enough control on your men that you could have guaranteed they wouldn't have? While you starved out the rest of us, including the Wardens who weren't "part of the problem?"

From: [identity profile] major-west.livejournal.com
They listened to me. Billy and I were the best armed, anyway.

And maybe then the others would have listened to those Wardens who purported to care.

From: [identity profile] capn-jack-h.livejournal.com
Ah. They listened to you. So Sam and Prefect weren't accidents? I mean, if they listened to you that must've been something you ordered.

While they were half-crazed and starved, you mean? Great mindset to rationalize with people in. And I'm guessing you figured that would've starved me, too.

[Rose flinches slightly at such a curt answer, and swallows. She sits quietly, staring down at her hands, wondering if she's said something wrong.]

[Morgan chose to visit West as soon as she had gotten better treatment for her leg. Too proud to hobble around in crutches or stay in bed, however, when she comes to him she's leaning on a cane. Given the mounds of righteous indignation she's sporting, her first words to him are kind of lame.]

Hi.

[Reluctantly, West gets off of the cot and approaches Rose, wrapping the fingers on his good hand around one of the bars.]

Rose, I am a terrible person.

[It feels weird to admit it]

I've done more than... keep secrets from or let down people who've trusted me in the past. And I have very few regrets.

[He doesn't quite sound like he believes that last bit. He looks down, swallows, and continues]

I hardly trust myself, and I don't want to put you in harm's way, but I can't promise that... I wouldn't do something even worse than all this one day.
