[She raises an eyebrow.] That's ... fine. I guess. [She shrugs.] Haven't got anything better to do. Still got that deck of cards?

[He nods] Yeah, but... need more than two to have any real fun with cards. [Totally a lie. Oh well. He walks on over to Morgan and leans down 'til they're at eye level]

Don't you want me to tell you why I'm glad I died?

[Morgan is not immune to uneasiness and it's coming in spades right now.] ...You know it sounds really morbid when you put it that way, Major.

[Yeah... it kind of does. Well, whatever! He's not used to hitting on women. Men are easier for him. But Morgan... okay. He can close his eyes and pretend she's another bloke. She kind of acts like one, anyway, and that's part of the appeal]

...suppose it does. Fuck it.

[So he grabs her chin (assertively, but not roughly or anything) and kisses Morgan]

[She's fairly certain she's begun to flail when it happens, and finally she pulls back, eyes wide. At first she doesn't know what to think or even how to react, and what finally comes out is less than eloquent.]

What was that? I mean -- I thought you were -- y'know...

[He snorts] Doesn't mean I'm defective, if that's what you're thinking.

[And then, the bedroom eyes are back] What I feel for you goes beyond all that. Maybe I was waiting for the right one. [He grins, then runs a hand through the pirate woman's hair and brings his face closer to hers again, trying to coax another kiss out. He can be gentle...]

[She tries not to 'ack!' when he moves in the second time, but half of it does get out.]

Now hold on a second, Major --

[She places her hands on his shoulders to ease him back.]

This is kind of coming out of nowhere. You realize that, right?

[He actually pouts slightly]

I've always liked you. I just didn't know how to show you.

[He pauses, thoughtfully]

It's not me, is it? It's the ears, isn't it.

[Morgan's mouth hangs open, gobsmacked.]

What? No, it's not that! I like you too, Major. But it is kind of my job to look after you. And you kind of made it clear that you're steering a different vessel.

[...That was probably the dumbest euphemism she could have come up with.]

[He shrugs, then grins all flirtatiously]

I can be flexible.

[She watches him a long moment, tense, like she's waiting for something in her brain to give, but it's not budging.] ...I think I need a drink.

Drinks are always a lovely precursor...

[He walks on over to his desk and pours some brandy for the two of them]

I won't rush you. [He says this like a total gentleman as he hands her a glass]

No no, I didn't mean it like that sort of drink-- [Morgan sighs and stops, realizing she sounds enough like an idiot as it is -- it just doesn't make sense. Mind, she never saw what West's "technique" was for getting guys when they were in Venice, but this still seemed a little -- well, sudden. And unusual.]

Oh damnit.

[It dawned on her. Turbulence. They probably took on water after all. So do I just ride it out and make the best of it or tell him? How would that make a person feel, though?]

Well, then, more for me! [He grins and downs both glasses quickly-- mainly because, attractive though he finds Morgan right now, there's still that part of him that's going "You know, this REALLY isn't working". He needs to shut that part up. Besides, he's been with women before. He knows he can... make himself... yeah. He can do it. And it would be BLOODY FANTASTIC.]

"Damnit?" Hm? Changed your mind about the drinks? I could pour you another.

Yeah, you can pour me one. [She utters half a laugh and begins rubbing one of her temples.] In the meantime, I want to point out that I think you're probably going to feel very silly about this later.

[She looks up at him, serious.] And whatever happens from here on, that isn't an option. Not right now.

[He pours her another drink and hands it over] There's nothing silly about a man's affection for a woman. I think it's... beautiful, really.

[He grins] The two of us, trapped on this vessel of the dead, a Warden and her Inmate-- could make for a good story.

[Then he stops grinning a bit] That? Oh. [Then the smile's back] Of course not. I'll respect your wishes.

[Wow, he was laying it on a little thick there, wasn't he?]

Thank you. [She downs the glass in a few gulps and comes up grunting at the burn in her chest, trying not to cough.]

Do you want to tell me when you started feeling this way?

Oh, since--

[This morning? No, he's been feeling this way forever. It just took him this morning to realize it]

Always.

[And then, as if to convince himself] ...I like women.

[She really did try not to laugh.] Major, this isn't about women. I like you. [A pause to emphasize that.] I do. And it has nothing to do with you being a man or what have you. And I'm glad you don't dislike me.

But I'm not going anywhere. So you can relax, okay?

Alright. [He grins] We'll take this slow. Make it really mean something when we get down to it.

We're not getting down to that. [She says with a tight smile.]

Oh.

[Well then, what the hell were they doing?]

Are you waiting until marriage? I can arrange that. I'm sure somebody here is certified to oversee a wedding.

I'm not waiting until marriage. I just think doing that would be a very big mistake, Major.

I don't think so. Why do you think so?

Because I don't really do that with -- well, people I know. People I get close to.

It doesn't tend to go well.
